How can a family be made to add elements or delete elements based on input of criteria?  (IE: ladder rungs, if I want a rung every 12", how can I make it have the correct number of rungs based on the overall length?  So if I say the ladder is 12' long, it has 11 rungs spaced 12" apart, the same ladder 6' long would have 5 rungs spaced 12" apart).  Another one with a similar need is 1/4" wire mesh.  How could I make a wire mesh so that all the spacing is 1/4", but it changes overall size with the size of the mesh?

Parametric line based families have been discussed in other threads so do a search for those.  In addition - look at some of the ladder families here on the RC site.  They are already parametric and you may be better off to modify one of those.

I would never model wire mesh.  Look at some of the posts on fences.  Using a material works much better for this item.

This quick video tutorial should help you out. http://designreform.net/2008/04/revit-line-based-parametric-array/

There are also a few others at designreform.net that help with parametric arrays.

Sometimes just doing one of these can answer the majority of your questions.

I found the array, and tried to use it.  I was succesful somewhat in arraying in the left to right direction, changing quantities within the array to match that of the required length.  What I could not seem to do is also change the array to the required Height in the top to bottom direction.  It seems I have to actually edit the array, and I could not find any way to edit the array parametrically, to lengthen the model line parametrically.  What I was trying to do is change an endcap of a rectangular duct to a wire mesh.  I managed to make the array from a model line, specify the spacing of the mesh so it flexed with the different sizes of ductwork.  The problem is I cant seem to get the height of the aray to change paramtrically.  Figure a 12X12 square.  I can make the array 12" tall and array it so there are 12 lines all 1" apart.  I can make it centered within the 12X12.  When I flex it, say for a 24X24 duct, the array becomes 24" long with the proper spacing, but still only 12" height. Any way around this?

I'm having a difficult time picturing this in my head but here is a shot.  Whatever solids are being arrayed need to be locked to reference lines.  These reference lines are what you want to actually array.  In order to keep you array hosted to the frame width or height, lock the beginning and ending reference lines at a set dimension to the frame.  That way the array overall follows the frame.  If this doesn't help at all you might try attaching your revit file in the next post.
