in Revit MEP 2010 i linked an architectural model and copied the levels and grids. set up my worksets and started placing objects, only to find out that the link is in the foreground. so my MEP objects disappear as soon as i click off of them. i have tried to find a button to move the link to the background, but can't find it.

please advise.

thank you

There really is no forground or background with linked models.  It is now part of your model.  If the item doesn't show, the you need to find out where you have placed it.... possibly below the floor?

just for example, i placed some ductwork at 9' a.f.f. and as soon as i clicked off of it the ductwork disappeared, i checked to see if the work set was on, it was. i checked the view range, it was ok. then i clicked to hide the linked model in plan view. and i could see the ductwork fine, but then i have no walls. i'm just trying to find out the most effective way to work with the architects model, and not have to recreate everything.

is it necessary to completly redraw the model, or can i use the architects model. it seems kind of silly to have to redraw what then have done.

Have you tried setting the arch model to transparent in V/G? IIRC, that's what we would do when linking it into our structural model.

but would i then be able to use there walls to set up our spaces and zones. or do i need to redraw the walls.

if when i do the copy should i go ahead and copy the walls also. i'm just confused by this process. i'm used to having to do my own model. for modifing existing buildings. we finally have a job that an architect is working with me and it's throughing me off. lol

You should not have to set any link to transparent.  We use links all the time and do not have this problem.  Where is your cut plane?  If the added elements are not below the floor, could they be below the architectural ceiling?

... or could they be above the ceiling and you are using a reflected ceiling plan?

Cut a section....

ok now i'm really confused, on the screen, the ductwork is not there, but when i exported a .jpg of the floorplan, and the section. the ductwork showed on both of them. now the ceiling line is at 10'-0" and i'm placing the duct at 9'-0" the view range settings for the first floor are: top = level above: offset 0'0", cut plane: offset 4'-0", bottom: associated level(finish floor) offset: 0'0", and view depth: associated level(finish floor) offset: 0'0".

i can't figure it out.
