I am trying to add some electrical symbols in my equipment families. What I need to be able to do however, is control the visibility of the symbols for each different view. The symbols need to only show up on the elec. plans and not on the plumbing and mech. plans, so a visibility parameter will not work. For the elec symbol I have to use a generic annotation (the only kind that can be loaded into another family), and I have added a Elec Symbol line type that can then me turned on/off in V/G in the project. This kind of works, the problem is it only affects the linework in the symbol, the filled region does not get turned off. Any other suggestions?

The electrical symbols that come with Revit can be controlled using VG and if you create a new family using the Electrical Fixture family it is also controlled by category in VG. You can also create a separate workset for components to control visibility in views.

I tried to change the symbol to the electrical fixtures catagory, the problem is I then can't load it into the equipment catagory.
