We are trying to add symbols (diamonds, squares, circles, etc.) at the end of stick projection lines on steel beams. Our "Symbolic Cutback Distance" under Structural Settings for beams is set at 3/32". If I multiply 3/32 by the scale factor of the drawing (48 if 1/4" = 1'-0" scale), the result should give me the actual cutback distance. Is there a way automatically tap in to the current "drawing scale" and make it part of a formula in a family? Thanks in Advance. Chazbo

No, there is no way to read this information.

Not exactly sure what you are asking. Are you asking how to obtain an actual beam cut, or how to create new symbols for connections?

WWHub confirmed that a value for the current drawing scale, much like "dimscale" in ACAD, is not available in REVIT Structure. Bummer. I hoped to use such a value in a formula.

Chazbo, Why are you tring to do this? You do not seem to understand what REVIT does. All model elements in Revit scale to the view automatically. All detail lines, filled regions, masking regions, hatch patterns scale to the viewport. There is no reason to do what you want to do. Quit thinking CAD.

im pretty sure that if you make the symbol with a 3/32" line it will always show 3/32 away when printed. there should be no reason to add a parameter for that line. Thats off the top of my head so, could be wrong.

Let's say I have an 1/8"=1'-0" steel building framing plan. I have a family that adds various symbols (diamonds, circles, squares) to the ends of steel beams (coarse mode) so I add a bunch of them to this plan. Now, I'd like to duplicate this view and change the scale to 1/4"=1'-0". When I do this and look at the symbols on the new view, the symbols miss the ends of the beams because the cutback distance at the ends of the beams decreased due to the scale change. So, if I want symbols on this larger scale drawing, I have to go back and reposition all the symbols. My hope was to load the symbols once so that whatever scale I use, the symbol will be at the end of the beam stick symbol. I already now what you are going to say. "DREAM ON!"

im guessing that the symbol's 0,0 point is staying put? if it is then you could edit the family so the end of the line is at the 0,0 point and then it stays where it should. Could you post a picture? if sure this is a solvable problem.

Please ses the attached 1/8" scale and 1/4" scale plans. The 1/4" scale plan is a duplicate view of the 1/8" scale plan but with the scale changed to 1/4" scale. On the 1/4" scale plan, notice the symbols do not align with the beam ends. I'd like these custom beam symbols to follow beam symbolic line ends no matter what scale we choose. Be aware that the ends of symbolic lines for beams are setback the "symbolic cutback distance" from the center of supporting girders or the face of supporting columns a distance of 3/32" (measured in sheet view, not model view) - notice the structural setting (attached) for symbolic cutback distance is 3/32" for beam/truss. I'd like to load these symbols at either the supporting girder center or the face of the supporting column and have a parameter in the symbol family offset the symbol from its loading point a distance of 3/32" times scale factor (ACAD lingo) - so for an 1/8" scale drawing this would be 3/32 times 96. In essense, the symbol would follow the beam end. But WWHub tells me I cannot tap into the "scale factor" like I could in ACAD. Defeted, I'll move on...
