I'm attempting to customize the standard room tag that comes with Revit out of the box. I've been able to customize everything but..........the box around the room number. I can't get the linework to appear while I'm editing the family. It's definately there because it show up three sizes too big in my project. Can anyone steer me towards that allusive setting that will allow me to see it and edit it?

In both the family and the project, this is an object styles setting for the appropriate category so you may not need to change it in the family but you should control it in your project template. To see these lines in your family editor, you need to turn them on in VG. Annotation category and switch on the "show" in this view box.
