I have scanned original drawings. I am using them as my existing/demo plans. I would like to place keyed notes on them that will correspond to a list of general notes in the sheet view. I cannot seem to use keynotes in my drafting view because there are no objects to key. Is there a way to place a number within a hexagon with a leader in drafting view?

Obvioiusly, you could create a dumb keynote but there is another answer. Some people are creating a detail family that hasnothing in it but a small invisible line. When placed in a drafting view, this family can be used to host keynote callouts or even other "smart" tags. mflure calls this his IDF ... invisible detail family. I warn you - this is a trick and it it up to you to understand and maintain the proper connections but it works.

Thanks for your response. How do you create a dumb keynote? I can't seem to place a keynote unless there is an object in a model.

Yeah how do you create a dumb keynote? This option would be handy as vaving to go around putting invisible objects in creates unecessary clutter and is sidestepping the issue. May as well group individual text boxes, change one change all no????

What is a dumb keynote? What do you want? You do know about "user" keynotes? From the HELP - Types of Keynotes - User. This option provides a way to use commonly used notes or phrases to address documentation issues. These additional user notes must be added to the provided keynote text files or included in one that you create. See Adding Additional Categories.

Thanks. I think keynotes are not for us. What another Revit user refered to as a 'dumb keynote' is a Generic Annotation Label which I am familia with when making families, it just never occured to me to use it for annotating details and drawings with. It is in effect a keynote not linked to a database but when edited changes all in that type. This seems the best way to go for us. It seems funny to me that you can't have keynotes free of objects.
