I am in Revit Architecture 2009. My questions is how does one get a symbol/annotation to work like the weld symbol? for examble if i wanted to make an exit light symbol and be able to turn on and off certain areas of the symbol to show directions of exit how is that done? how do i assign parameters to a filled region to be off in one instance and on in another? i am not sure this is making snese but please help. I am trying to automate more of my annotations so i do not have to insert differnet families for each occurence.

You can contol visibility of elements in families using y/n switches. Download the families guide here and it should help you. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?id=13080413&siteID=123112&linkID=9243097

Thank you very much for the help. I went through the directions of how to create a keyplan to accomplish my goal. Anyone who is working in REvit and buidlign families needs to download that posted document. See attached for the family i was able to create.
