I can't trim them, can't trim to them, can't pick them to draw lines on. Why is this?

If I do not take the time to work a few arcs as a tracing over that "perfect spline shape," I will manually trim. I usually give in and try to come back with (or start with) arcs so I can give a calculated radius measurement to the contractor.
