when placing points to create the topo, the triangulation of the program infills the countour lines. Instead of a serpentine profile I'm getting a big triangular blob. Any idea how to get the contour points to be fully connected and the correct profile shown?

Site tools are not one of Revits strong points. The site is there mainly to act as context for exterior renderings and simple preliminary site studies. If you have accurate topo lines in AutoCAD, you can use those to create a Revit toposurface. If the topo doesn't exist in AutoCAD, I would create the polylines there and give them the proper elevation then create the Revit topo from them. If you don't have AutoCAD, you can buy TurboCAD for about $29.00 and save out the DWG from there.
