I was wondering if anyone know's how to scale family objects without going to the 'edit family' tab? Trying to re-size a front end loader of the net , having issues....

If the family is "Parametric" you don't need to SCALE anything, after you load the family to the project, pick in the object, go to the properties and change the parameters (dimensions) like you want....

You say it's a front end loader... If that is an import in a family from cad/sketchup, open the family and scale the import.
