Hey there, I'm using Revit Structure 2009, and this is my first Revit job. I'm trying to show a w-beam with the bottom portion removed, for a portion of the beam. The idea is that the top flange will extend out to pick up the edge of the roof overhang. So I used the 'Opening' function, and the 'Opening By Face' option and created an opening to cut out the portion of the beam I need taken away. Which seems to work fine....except for some reason it is still showing the bottom portion of the beam in the section view, but not in the 3d view. (See the attached pics) Is there a visibility setting I should be checking so that the beam is shown the way I want it?

What does your cut depth look like? Are you only cutting through the extension, or does your section look through the entire cross section of the beam as well?
