we´ve created some complex windows families, with many types, parameters and formulas.the families often have parameters with the same name.each family works perfectly when we change the types, but the problem comes when we try to change from one custom window family to a different custom window family. we have two situations: the message "can´t make type" appears, or the family is changed but it is shown with errors in the geometry (for example, the glasses are not the same size as frame, or the mullions are not long enough, or not shown), and when we try to edit the family, sometimes we have the error "constrains are not satisfied"This is weird because when we change from our custom family to a default family (revit library) they change perfectly....can anybody help us, please?????

When you change families in the project, I believe the only parameters that are really transferred are mark number and location. The new family uses the type defaults. If the family will not build in the project, it's a bad family. Most times, the problems you are seeing are caused by constraining elements in the family incorrectly to the host. In the family, try changing your host wall size to match your project wall and see what happens.

Nearly every time I have a problem with a custom door or window family as you are saying, it is because how the wall thickness affects your family (as WWHub stated). Add another wall type in your family that is a different thickness "wall 2" and you'll find out which objects are creating the conflict. Make sure your objects in your family are relative to the correct part of the wall (interior, exterior, or center). When you're constructing a new family, constantly check to make sure it works with different wall thicknesses.

First of all many thanks for the answers, but unfortunately the walls don't seem to be the problem becouse the family works perfectly when we change from type to type in the same family and we change the wall type. We think that the problem is the glass neasted family in each main windows family becouse the frame looks fine and it is changed when we change the family in the project. that why we aligned & locked the glass family to reference plans and them we linked its sizes to the main family but nothing it's working.... Any other idea?

This is a family issue - not project. Flexing the family does not always assure that it is built correctly. Something is constrained incorrectly. Make the wall even thicker in the family and see what happens. To test out your theory of what element has a problem, delete the glass in the family, then load into the project and test. You can continue this trial and error process until you identify the problem.
