Does anyone know what other types of families I  can use to model a family like you can do ceilings just by selecting the room?

You can model ceiling by selecting the room and revit automatically adds the ceiling without having to trace the perimeter of the room. I need to do that with other families other than the ceiling.

Or, how can I add a parameter to the ceiling so it automatically picks up the room name and number where it belongs?

 thanks

Only Ceilings and Structural Beam Systems have autosketch functionality - Remembering these are both system families...

I don't believe ceilings can belong to a room as they are a "room bounding" element.  Would you expect a wall to be able to belong to a room when it can potentially divide multiple rooms?

This could technically only be achieved through the Revit API or adding shared parameters and manually inputting the room information.

Thanks for the post.

I tried the beam system but it does not read the room boundary, I followed the instructions from the help menu and still did not do it.

I created a test project (4 walls, slab) and ran the tool but it did not give me the option of automatically creating the beam system.

Any ideas?

Structural Beam System automation only works in Revit Structure and requires girders/rafters/structural walls to already be placed that define the boundary...

I've been teaching our office how to use Revit Architecture. This blog will highlight some of the common questions and cool tips found in the process of transitioning our office to Revit.
