all the tutorials i've seen say to put a curtain wall in like it was a wall in plan view.. and everytime i ask this question here they say it's easier if i do it in plan view.. please look at my image.. i know i could cut those holes in plan view and check embedded and make the curtain wall window.. but i want to cut the hole in the wall and then put the curtain wall in the hole.. i have my reasons.. is this possible?

You can if you want to. Draw the wall in plan view, probably outside the wall so that you can see what is happening and in elevation, align it to the opening. In plan move it to the correct position.

are you saying there is no way to put a curtain wall in those openings other than blindly in plan view?

seems like it might be possible to make a curtain wall in an elevation view using lines somehow.. it does have curtain system by lines- that must mean something..

Here's what I would try and do... In plan view, draw the curtain wall outside of the wall with the opening and maybe a little to one side of the opening so you can see the opening in an elevation view. Set the curtain wall to use a base constraint the same as the wall with the opening. In elevation view, use 'DI' to get the dimensions of the opening (if need be; I'm presuming you already know this though) and if needed for the bottom of the opening from the base constraint. Use these dimensions for the curtain wall and offset the base constraint to that of the bottom of the opening. For the top constraint leave it 'Unconstrained' (I believe that is what it is called) and give it the height of your opening. Then use plan view again to move it into place. Hope that helps.

So you don't need any assistance creating the holes by the sounds of things. Just placing the curtain wall in the openings. This can be done in 3D no problem. Just set the base of the wall and top of the wall to match the head and sill height. Then draw it on the centreline of the host wall to the extents needed. It should snap where appropriate.

wow- heavy weight Mr. Spot comes out for this- thanks.. i knew there was a way to put curtain wall windows in wall openings in a 3d view- but i don't know if not having model lines is the problem i'm having in 3d..and that's why i've been trying to find a way to put them in elevation with detal lines.. i'll keep trying- but i've got too many fancy curtain wall windows to embed them blindly in a host wall in plan view..

Mr. Spot- i think i found a way to create curtain wall windows in elevation.. embed a small square curtain wall in the general location from a plan view and then go to elevation and edit the profile there.. i found i can change grids and mullions in elevation.. what's nice about revit is there is so many ways to do things that almost anything can be done any way you want to do it..
