I am trying to figure out how to do a corrugated meatl finish for a wall and cant seem to get it to work, i have tried using sweeps but htey are a pain to work with and impossible to work out on uneven height walls. Is there a trick or tip to get this to work?

The real question you need to ask is do I need to model this? Metal siding and deck are usually not modeled. Trying to model these shapes just eats up way too much performance. They are treated as a material for rendering purposes and the render will add the shadows to visually appear correctly. They are usually represented in elevation by a simle one direction pattern. Then detail components are added for sections or details.

If you're looking to make these look right in a render, you can download textures @ www.steelselect.com (i'm not trying to advertise or anything but there's a great free range here)

Thanks guys that helps. Ill look into that site and see whats available. I really just need it for rendering purposes, perhaps 3DS Max is the place to do this, i haven't had exposure to that software yet, but should get some here soon enough. I just thought since they have wall finishes like wood siding and so on, why not have something like corrugated steel? Wood siding doesnt seem to take much from the performance of the system...and it helps to understand, visually, the flow of the design in the earlier stages of the project rather than at the very end when it is time to render.

i haven't played with materials too much but i found the help file talks you through the process, basically you import the texture file and then manipulate the colours. Just hit F1 and you should be fine

(for Revit 2009) I would suggest using the wood texture as a base. Change the wood to a metal wall panel texture and adjust the width accordingly (3' is typical). I'm still have a heck of a time trying to get the colours right.....

This is very helpful, but I am new to this. How do you download the texture and put it into your revit project?
