I'm attempting to produce a plan that has areas defined by the 'type' of work being done (renovated areas, new construction areas, areas where no work will be done) What I would like to see is a color scheme that relates to those areas and gives the total square footage for each, meaning renovated areas are one color and the total square footage of those renovated areas is xxx. Ive managed to get close by using a color scheme and an area schedule, but I'd like to see something combined - a color scheme that shows "color equals total square footage." Ive also experimented with rooms and legends, but I just cant seem to produce a 'smart' graphic that shows a color and an area. the pdf has two sheets i mocked up - one is an area plan, the other uses rooms scheduled by departments(i just named the departments according to the work to be done) both sheets have color schemes, and an area schedule.... is it possible to do what i'm looking for?

thanks tom i quickly went thru your instructions and tried the project paremeter method. i created a color scheme legend based on that parameter. in the color scheme i created values based on new construction, no work, and renovated work areas. im still not able to get the legend to show the total square footage of each area. Im guessing the text paramter isnt adequate for this, so Im trying to quickly bone up on using formulas and such to see if that gets me anywhere...or have i missed something obvious in your instructions? thanks again - obviously i need to spend some time on project / shared parameters!

The legend will not show the square footage. Do a schedule of the areas and sort/group by your new parameter and add the grand total. Then place your view with the color legend on a sheet and add your schedule to the same sheet. You can position the schedule right below the color fill to support the color fill information. HTH
