I recently joined a new firm.  I feel very lucky in this economy to have gotten the job.  Part of why I was hired is to help "modernize" the office.  They are still using AutoCAD r14.  It has worked very well for them.  They create very legible sets of CD's and pay alot of attention to how their sets look and communicate information.  They have also been in business for a long time.  Contractors recognize their documents because of their signature look.  My challenge is to make Revit create sets that look like their old sets.  I have a working knowledge of how to use Revit.  I have been using it for about 8 months at a previous job.  I don't know much about managing templates and managing custom families.  Any advice or good resources to look at?  One specific question, how do I make sure that whatever customization I create on my single license will not be lost when the whole office upgrades?

Thanks in advance.

"should not be affected in anyway. has nothing to do with your license. they will need to be on an equal or greater version number though. Autocad R14. WOW!! From what i hear there are still lots of those guys out there. Best of Luck to you.

Thank you.  This office swears by AutoCAD r 14, "Best AutoCAD ever...all downhill from there."  I'm surprised they are interested in making the leap into Revit.  I'm not going to ask twice though.  Ever since working in Revit, I don't want to go back.

I'm opening all anno families from the Revit Library and changing the fonts to one that looks like the AutoCAD text they have always used.  I am putting _firmname at the end of each and loading them into the template.  So, "keynote" becomes "keynote_firmname."  I am then deleting keynote from the template.

This is more info than I'm sure you care to have.  If it sounds like a foolish approach please let me know.
