OK, so i never understood why this was so difficult in 2009, but now it is completely impossible in 2010. When trying to create any inplace family (mass, inplace wall, etc), I like to go to a side view (either an elevation or a section) to draw my shape, and then extrude it horizontally. In 2009, I would go to my side view, draw a detail line, then when i started to create my extrusion, it would ask me to pick my workling plane. I would choose "select line...." and then pick the detail line I had previously drawn. I have used this countless times in 2009 without problem. However, now in 2010, while everything still looks like it shoudl work, it does not. THe option to pick the detail line is still there, but nothing happens when I select it. The cursor changes to the pick cursor, but when I hover over my detail line, it does not highlight (like it did in 2009), and I can not select anything. So basically I am completely unable to create any extrusions from a vertical view (elevation or section). THe only planes I am allowed to pick are plan views. This REALLY SUCKS!!!!!! AM I missing something? Or have they ruined 2010?

In plan view, create a ref. plane(s) like a cross, go to set workplane and select the Horizontal, now you gonna choose the north or south view to work, right? if you select the vertical ref. plane, revit "ask" you what view you want to work: East or west.....

Ok thanks. I will try this. Still dont know why the method that worked in 2009 no longer works in 2010. So what does the "pick line and use its plane" option do now? I can't get it to select any line from any objects at all.

There is something you are doing wrong because you can do that like in 2009, only seeing what are you doing i can tell what's wrong....
