What I want to do is model my hollow core as a structural slab instead of beams.  On my drawings I do not need to locate plank joints so to make it easier and quicker I want to do it as a slab.  I am thinking I should be able to create a slab type with a structural deck layer.  Instead of a deck I want to apply a user-created family profile to act like a voided region in the slab.  I have tried everything I can think of but have yet to be able to have the profile populate in the deck profile field of the edit assembly dialog.  Any suggestions?

Did you ever figure this out?  It seems that would make more sense.  I have the same issue.  Really slow using beams unless you use framing system.

As you can see I didn't get a response from anyone.  What I found was the profile you apply to a slab has to attach to the bottom plane of the slab.  What I had to do was draw the profile where I wanted it and then draw two profile lines down from the bottom of my hollow core profile to the bottom plane.  You can make them as close together as you need to make it look like one line.  Next split and trim the hollow core lines between the vertical lines.  Draw lines from the bottom of the vertical lines along the bottom plane half the distance that you want the cores spaced.

This is not a very good way of doing it unless you don't mind the line(s) between the core profile and bottom plane.  Of course if that is ok with you.  It is a lot faster and easier to model and manipulate once you have the profile loaded into the project.

Are each of using Revit Structure? I am, and I had a project about a year ago which was put on the shelf (unfortunately) but was going to be masonry bearing walls and concrete plank for the floor construction.  At that time I was looking for the easiest way to model this...One way I was thinking of doing it was to model a generic floor with the same thickness which would include the topping layer.  Then whenever I needed to cut a section, I would just add the detail of the plank as a component.  In plan, we typically do not show the lines representing the edge of the plank.  Of course if you're doing building sections and such I could see you might not want to add detail components if you could just model the floor to include the detail...

Yes, I was talking about modeling a floor in the structure module.  I contemplated doing something similar to what you are saying.  I was going to model two floor slabs.  One for the top and one for the bottom (half the total thickness).  I would make a profile for the bottom half of the core and associate it as a structural deck to the bottom slab and on top of the concrete layer.  Then I would make a profile for the top half, etc.  You could then join the two slabs.

First problem I could see happening would be making sure the two profile halves line up.  The most important thing was I didn't have the available time and I was content with the core halving a line run down the bottom.
