Greetings I am curious if you can have details in one model and then somehow link them to the other models in the same project. Say a school with multiple buildings but they all use the same set of details. I dont want to have to import the details into each model. Does that make sense can it be done? Thanks Sean

You can 'insert' (not link, see below for link method) 2d sheet views, schedules and drafting views into multiple projects quite easily. In fact you can have a project that contains only detail drafting views and you can then use it as a kind of 'warehouse' to manage your details. 'Drafting' views move from project to project quite nicely with copy / paste. Right click in the project browser. You can open up two different project files and copy / paste detail drafting views from project to project. You can also right click a drafting view, callout view or section view in the project browser and 'save as view file'. Note the extension *.rvt Then import OR LINK it into another project as an rvt file. Here you do get the LINK option but each detail would have to be a seperate file. So it depends on how the 'detail' view was created. If it was created fom a callout or section of the 3d model that's different. Then you have only one method which is to right click the view in the project browser and 'save to view file' (*.rvt). Then yoiu can import or LINK it as an rvt file into another project but be aware that this type of detail willl come with all the 3d model parts that are part of the detail. Test it out first to see what you get. As far as 2d drafting views goes. It's a snap. Just create a 'details warehouse' project file that is packed with all your standard details. I worked in an office that simply printed out all the details on 11"x17" sheets and then the architect / engineer would just circle the details they want and I would go plunk them into the project. Sometimes they needed slight modifications so I would copy the drafting view, rename it and make a new detail for future use and include it in the updated 11"x17" printout.

So you cannot have all of your typical details on one project and reference them into another? Just trying to keep from importing the same details into another project. Lets say two structures/models in the same project for client but separate models. One model has the details but you want to reference typicals to the second model. does that make sense
