Why do I get these huge trees when I import into 3ds max? there are like 4 layers of them on the top and bottom of my model!

Thanks,

-David

your units are probably incorrect. check Customize/Units Setup

I think mine is set to feet/ fractional inches

I don't think it's the units cause the whole building is importing correctly. Just these trees are HUGE!!! Hey Alabaster, how do you do your trees/people in your 3ds max renderings?

Thanks,

-David

I usually photoshop them in. but if i do use landscape i'll usually use the Xfrog freebies on SEEK, try this link

http://seek.autodesk.com/search.htm#query=search%5Enew%5Equery%3Dxfrog%3Bsource%3DQuickLinks

I only use people if I'm told too, I think they look dumb in a render

They are for use in Max directly, Revit cannot handle these types of complex models. I suggest you download a couple and open them in max and then research mental ray proxy objects, this will save you tons of time when rendering.

there's no way to convert them for Revit?  Dang...cause they look pretty killer compared to some of Revit's stock stuff.  I thought it was possible to bring some things over from 3DS like cars...

you can bring in cars and low poly trees, but most of these trees have a poly count to high for revit.

wow, finally figured out mental ray proxies and it looks like a life saver. Downloaded Zap's scrip and it works effortlessly.

Hey Alabaster, do you know if it is possible to make a library of these proxies and use them in multiple scenes? How would I go about doing this? They don't seem to work properly when created from the original files...

You should be able to easily create a library, I will try and make a tutorial this weekend using that script.

Hey Alabaster, did you get a chance to create that tutorial? or if not, could you quickly explain what to do? I've tried opening up the xfrog tree models and using the script to create the proxies but my trees keep coming out black and without materials. What could I have done wrong here? Also, After I've made the scripts, how to I add them to a scene?

I cleaned up the multiples...wwhub

I have not had a chance to use the script. You may need to use an xref material in order for your diffuse and opacity maps. they should render properly then
