Ok, So here's my problem.... My company is getting ready to start building a multi-building campus project in Revit. Because of the scope and size of the project, each building will be issued as separate set of documents. They will however, share common details on many things. (roof, stairs, elevators, sections, etc.) We are trying to find a way to incorporate a common, updateable set of details throughout all of the sets, without using autoCAD. We want to have a single database of linked revit details common to the entire project, that are updateable. Can I link a detail from one model into views from another model and still keep it 'linked", so that it will stay updated? The idea here is that I create a detail in one set of drawings that would then be used throughout the rest of the sets. As that detail changes throughout the design process, it would automatically coordinate in the other sets. This is what I am after...... What we are trying to avoid is having to manage the same detail in mulitple models. I don't want to update the detail in one set, export it out, and then import it into the other sets. I want it to maintain linked or referenced relationship with all of the other sets...... Am I asking for too much here? What are my options?

If everything can be in one file then no problem but I doubt that is what you want. Not sure that you can accomplish exactly what you want. I doubt you will get a perfectly clean way of doing this but here are some thoughts: - Understand the difference between drafting details and model details/sections. Drafting details are portable between projects... just like CAD but they will not update automatically. You might think about putting all of these common details in one REVIT project and printing sheets from here for all the projects.
- Look into linking your models if you need live common model views and use link by view. The problem with this is that you have to be in the linked model to change it and you can not tag linked model entities. Again, you may be able to develop a common sheet(s) in one project that are model based views used by all projects. (Like elevator / stair sections).
Good luck and keep us informed of your decisions and experience.
