Is it possible to cut one void through multiple families?  IE cutting a hole through an entire building... roof, walls, stairs, floors, etc.

The void has to be in the same category as the things that you're cutting.  A void made in the wall category can cut walls, but not floors or roofs, so you will have to cut them separately.
