Is there a way when I create a new family of any kind to add a parameter that automatically reads the room it belongs to?? For example: If a model a toilet and insert it in room 100, I want the toilet to have a parameter that automatically picks up room 100. Thanks

Certain categories in Revit are "room aware" such as" Furniture, Specialty Equip and Plumbing fixtures. The trick is that when you schedule these objects to pay attention to the lower left corner of the "Fields" tab in the schedule dialog. Here you can choose to add Room and Space related fields to your schedule. See attached image. HTH

Thanks for your post, but, I was already awared of that. The only problem with creating the schedule and adding the room name is that the object doest not carry that room name parameter. for example, if you click on the properties of a toilet it does not tell you it belongs to "room 100" but in the schedule it does. I just need to know if I can add the room name parameter to any family a create so when I insert that family in a room it automatically adds the room name to the family. Thanks......

Not using Revit OTB. The API could possibly be used to develop a routine or maybe the RDB Link. The question though is why if the toilet know what room it's in in the schedule does the room name have to be hardcoded back to the family? I don't understand what type of workflow you are trying to support.

Sorry for not explaining myself. What we are trying to do does not have anything to do with creating schedules nor CD's. Short version - we want to be able to add the room name (automatically) to each object on the project so then we can export the project to navisworks and be able to identify each room and the objects in the room.... it gets more complicated but that's the bottom line. Thanks
