I am currently using Revit 2010. In the past I have used Viz for all of my renderings. In Viz, under the creat tab, Archivision had a very convienient little interface to help select and adjust the RPC's. The way it is looking is that Revit will not be the same in this regard. Is it really true that I have to use a family placeholder and "edit type" to get the RPC that I am looking for??? Is there a better way? Plz help.

I wish there was a better way! If you are a Viz user why have you not made the jump to 3ds Max Design? You can export to FBX and it retains materials and lighting and what not. It is waaaay better than guess work in Revit. Plus in Revit my RPC always seem to render with a slight glow around them.

Thanks for the reply. Want to, but we just dont have the $$$ right now to upgrade so it looks like we will export, save down, then link in... Not lovin that either but at least once the model is in viz, I can feel more comfortable knowing I can control the output a bit more.

That's one function I miss from the old ADT+Viz workflow and having an actively linked model in my rendering platform and my ADT updates transfered to Viz. There is a little work around to have a similar functionality in Revit+Max but its a few more steps and is a little wacky. The nice thing for me is I can transfer my Revit to Max and calculate the footcandles for daylighting and submit my results for LEED EQ Credit 8.1. Plus render times in Max with Mental Ray and distributed rendering are a fraction of the time Revit takes.

EXACTLY!!! I am trying to set-up the non-linear workflow but it is clear now that I will have to tighten up on the amount of adjustments I am going to make after I have a scene going in viz. Funny you mention the render times, I just got done rendering a small interior lobby in revit with the lights and it took a small piece of forever. Love the potential of getting my lighting to transfer to viz/max but I am guessing I have to have the 3ds Max Design to get them to jive...

Yeah honestly time vs cost in the short term Max will save you a lot of money. And with the addition on Mental Ray and the active viewport enhancements in Max Design 2010 you are gonna be pretty blown away by what you are going to be able to achieve in a very short amount of time. The only time I ever render in Revit when doing and exterior sunlight scene only, it seems to handle them very easily.
