the wood timbers in my model all have the same material applied to them for accurender. however, some of them render in one direction, others in the opposite direction, see attatched image. has anyone else had this problem? i cant figure out any solution and i have tried many things.

Hmm that is annoying. The only way i can see to get around that would be to paint the wood material onto the lower edges so you can apply a rotated material. If they're families you'd need to use the material paint in the family...

thanks for the info, but is there a paint command somewhere in revit that i have never seen? the beams are structural wood beams within revit that i applied material through their properties, but i can't see a way to apply a different material to each side of the beam.

The paint command is the icon that looks like a paint bucket about 7th one from the left.

how about duplicating your material and rotating the map?
you might have to duplicate your beam as well... call one X and the other Y...
