Great thanks a lot. One more noob question. I applied "material" to it so i could apply different colors etc..but i use the family in the drawing, and although the material parameter can be changed, it doesnt seem to be anything but grey solid in my model space. if i set it to glass say, its still grey opaque. any suggestions? I know its highlighted red, but check the screen shot for the screen im looking at. Michael

Go in and edit your material on the first screen there is a box showing the color. There is a check box for use render color for shaded view or something along those lines. That should work for you.

So it doesnt work...:-( I saw the box to change the materials but still grey. here is the family file. please help me assign a meterial to it. also let me know what I did wrong. Its always grey in the regular shaded views. and does not appear like anything other than default grey when rendered, no matter what material i apply. either when the "use render appereance" is on or off. tried this in both the family editor and the plan im using the item it...

Hi Warchitect....to assign a new material, in your project go to Settings--> Materials...Toilet color (is the material I created), and change it to whatever material you want....

thanks, a i figured it out, when you import the part into a proj. the material of the item has to be set "by catergory" so with your advice and some more looking i figured it. thanks all.
