just loaded 2009, finally.  template from 2008 is 118 mb. yes, I know it's excessively large.

tried save as

tried auditing while opening file

neither have reduced file size.

I can still open it in 2008.

What would be most effective way to reduce file size without losing content.  I'm thinking about saving content to a different revit file.  Is copy, paste the only way to get content into another file?

I guess I could do a save as to create duplicate file. Then delete content from what will become my new template.

Any thoughts.

This template is way too large.  Ask yourself, will almost everything in this template be in a typical project?  If not, throw it out.  If you still think everthing in this template belongs, then you have really done something wrong.  Either you have families that are way too large or you have loaded CAD details in the template or family that just don't belong.  I don't see any way a template should be over a couple of megs.
