it says you can expand the panels on the ribbon by clicking the tiny pointer- that works- but the tutorial says this: "To keep a panel expanded, click the push pin icon in the bottom-left corner of the expanded panel." i can't find any "push pin" anywhere- does anyone know what this means?

if you have the panel in the ribbon, the push pin is there. if you have the panel floating somewhere outside the ribbon, there is no push pin. frustrating if you have plenty of space on a seconday monitor...

see my screenshot- do you see a push pin anywhere? also why do people keep talking about taking the panels off the ribbon and putting then on a separate monitor? have these people actually tried that? do they know how big those panels are and how many they could actually get on a second monitor? not many..

the only things that give you the pin option as far as i can see are dimension, tag, and room&area. See attached screenshow, where the dimension tack is visible, but if that panel was floating off the the right on the 2nd monitor, the tack does not appear.

yes thanks- it's only a few of the expandable panels that have the pins.. the tutorial don't say that.. as for the second monitor- as you can see- only a few of the panels can go there- so why bother.. as for the browser- it can go on that wasted space you have on either side of that building or only turn it on when you need it.. with two monitors- that just means your head is working back and forth instead of relaxing in one position.. so far the best i've found is a single monitor at 1280 x 960.. see my attachment..

Xaquin- i try to fight off thoughts of the classic UI.. but i believe it's true- the previous UI was like a ferrari- where the new one is like a GMC utility vehicle.. but at least it does look modern- and that might be important if clients look at your screen.. also there might be some kind of miracle for 2011.. lol

the ribbon is a pain in the curse, too many clicks to get at info that used to be so close. and as for keyboard shortcuts, autodesk should make it easier to customize them, make them an option inside revit instead of fooling around in a TXT file. I could of sworn older versions you could edit the shortcuts from within the program, but i cant find anything of the sort in 2010. having to click on icons at all is a pain, personally i like a clean screen with nothing on it but the drawing.

"clean screen with nothing on it but the drawing" that was my idea three years ago and i found the only solution to make that happen and i wish i would have done it then.. but now i should still do it.. there is a device- and i don't remember the name of it- but it's a thing that has many buttons that fit your left hand that can be programmed and your left hand never leaves this device and all the revit commands and numbers can be done from that.. of course there is voice recognition if you like that.. windows 7 has top of the line voice recognition built in.. something has to be done about this ribbon- i agree..

I think you may be talking about a Nostromo WYSIWYG. I have one and LOVE it. Took me about a week to get used to, but now I'm a million times faster using it over the keyboard.

Xaquin, Can you tell us more about your Nostromo? I usually use my left hand for my mouse but have injured my left wrist and am looking into alternative setups. Do the Nostromo reduce repeatitive movement? How difficult was it to program for Revit functions?

I hate to say it, but I mostly used it for quick keys in CAD. I don't know too many shortcuts in Revit. It doesn't aleviate repetitive movements as it remains stationary. You just move your fingers. this is the one I use: (also, it's so easy to program =)
