For background, I am running Revit Architecture 2009 on a Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz w/3GB of RAM. I am creating a BIM model, and the Revit file is ~120mb in size (it's large, I know). Revit is handling it fine, including rendering, but about every 15 minutes of normal work, my open view will turn black, and I get a notice saying "A required resource was unavailable." My only option is to say 'ok.' Revit doesn't actually freeze up, because I click the x to close Revit, and it asks me if I want to save changes, I say 'yes' and then Revit closes. Now while I'm not losing work, it's frustrating to have to restart Revit every 15 minutes. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find anyone else with this problem. Please help! Thanks!

I bet it's a memory issue, you have only 3 GB of RAM....

I know, I would think it would be too, but Revit is running very smoothly right up until I get the black screen. Sad I am only using the 32-bit version, so I could only max out 1 more GB of RAM anyway.

  1. You do really need 4 meg and although it was working fine until now... ahhhh ... your file is larger now.  And yes, only 4GB is available in 32 system AutoDESK still recommends that you have 4 - not 3!
  2. You say nothing about doing file maintenace.  That may not help you here but are you regularly compressing your file?
  3. At 120 mb, are you using worksets and opening with limited worksets?  Do you limit the number of windows you have open?
  4. Are you using shaded with edges a lot?  That really hogs memory.
  5. Again, this may not help - not sure.  Have you run cc-cleaner or another disk maintenance on your system.  When your temp file directories get too large, that causes problems.
