This comes from the desk of "duh look at the options bar." I've never liked how arrays are always grouped. You can avoid this by clearing the group and associate box (on the options bar). BTW this will improve model performance. FWIW, John

Note that it will increase model performance, but eliminate the option of making that array parametric. So if there's a chance that something in that array may change, leave Group and Associate checked.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! |

rkitect has a very valid point. I have created a metal roof panel (4' wide) and I assign the family a length. When I do an array it groups each, but I have found in the recent past that it works nicely when I want to move or lengthen the panel; I do it to one group and the rest change as well, making less work on my part.

Point well taken. Just an option for say a simple detail component that a user wouldn't probably change the family. But I guess that's why it's on the options bar. John

Yes, that's exactly what it is there for. I hit that phase that you were in at one point where I started arraying things for detail components, then I found the "repeating Detail Component" tool Cheers!

I have a question about grouping and arraying as part of a parametric model. Typhoon has tried to help but apparently I'm not yet up to the task. I have a louver model and want the blades to adjust with the size of the louver. When I have a single blade I can attach it to the frame and everyone is happy when the louver size changes. The second I try to array the blades and asign them a parameter things get wacky. I attach the ends of the blade to the frame, array it and asign a formula for the number of blades. When I change the louver width I get a message that the constraints aren't satisfied and the blades stay the same length. Arraying the items screws everything up for some reason.
