You can put new refernce plane for sweep in roof plane from elevation ...

You should be able to get it to work using an in-place family and selecting the roof as the work plane and then picking the edge for the sketched path. Then simply select the profile.
NOTE: You cannot have a profile with non straight lines and a path that contains splines or ellipses, so it would need to be a simple curve.
