In previous version, I was able to create a custom material with a tile pattern, example for standing seam metal roofing. In the newest version I can't find out anyhow to create these patterns. It is the new rendering and material with Revit 2010 and 2009.

Go to the Render appearance dialogue box of a material and click on replace. You can then take one of the existing options and change the settings or maps to what you require, or use the generic material and add maps or bump maps to it to give the material that you want.

I use 2010 now. In the previous versions there used to be a specific area for tiling. i haven't found one in this version yet. Also, how do you create a new material based on a existing material. This also was available in previous versions. When I say previous, it was before they changed rendering engines.

I have reviewed each of your response and thanks. Now, I do not want to change an existing library item. For instance "Copper Patina Hammered" I want to use and duplicate and make a new item "Copper Patina Standing Seam" without changing the original. How is that accomplished. It seems like everytime I think I have Revit figured out, they change it somewhat.

You will not change the library items - it will only be in your project. Just duplicate as Typhhoon says, adjust as required and you're done.

Ah, so the material changes are project based, not global? Thanks a bunch.

Actually, materials can be set in the family and are in this respect global ... except once a material is set in the project, then the project controls.
