My understanding is that a model can be opened in both 32 and 64 bit operating systems. Can you have your central model be in a 32 bit operating system and have a local file in a 64 bit operating system or viceversa? Can you have your architectural model in a 64 bit operating system and your consultant links in 32 bit operating system? We are trying to test a 64 bit operating system to see the benefits of it. The way we want to test it is having one person work on a model for a couple of weeks, but only that one person would be working on a 64 bit operating system. The rest of the people that would be working on the same model would be working on a 32 bit operating system. I'm wondering if that's possible at all. Thanks, Terealva

I've talked to Mr Spot about this and he was on the beta version before 2010 came out. Maybe he will respond later but as I understand it, both 32 & 64 can share same central ... it's a file ... it's a file ... it's a file - doesn't matter. And that answers most of your questions. Speed is a different issue and as I understand it, most of the time it will only show up in rendering. The big difference will be performance on large projects. With 32 systems... I think we are pushing it with 150+/- meg files - depending on links and worksets.

files are not operating system dependant. if your working with very large files, there are files that you will be able with your 64-bit OS that will not open with your 32-bit OS for variest rasons. but that dosen't seem to be a problem hre.
