Dear All, I am hoping some kind soul out there will be able to help me out with this. I desperatly need a hatch patten generating for a live project. I have tried all the free hatch generators i can find but with no luck. Im looking for the pattern to complete,,(or at least start) on some ceiling layouts. Ideally im looking for a metric scaled pattern as per my image attachment. Any help or advice would be greatly welcomed. Thank you. J.

The pattern should be fairly easy to create in Revits pat file. Find the metric pat file in Program Files, Revit, Data. The attached PDF is one that I created to remind myself of how to create patterns, as the explanation (found in the imperial pat file) is a bit complicated.

Thanks Tim, your explination sheet is great. I have had a go at it but im still struggling with the horizontal spacings. It appears that method of inputting into the Pat file only works on regually repeating offsets though. Im needing the horizontals to be spaced at 750, 750, 150. Is this possible? So far all i have is : 90,825,0,0,1650 for the verical lines. Thank you

Well done, once you can create that you can create most patterns in Revit. There's also another explantion in the help that show you how to create a pattern with angles in, but the concepts are the same.

Thanks Again Tim, but in the words of columbo,,, just one more thing.. I was also hopeiing to great a 300x300mm grid but using a dashed linetype. So on the basis of the earlier learning i was thinking. 90,150,0,0,300,75,75 0,150,0,0,300,75,75 would provide me with what i wanted.. but im just getting solid lines. Is there anything else im missing that you can think of? Thanks again.

Tim, I think your worksheet has helped me a whole bunch! I've been racking my brain on how to create these curse hatches. I've searched through forums, through HELP -- and I even downloaded hatchkit. I think I have the right numerical values and they're in txt format. How can I transform these numerical values into pat. format? I tried importing the numerical values, but they don't seem to work. Finally (I'm hoping), it's starting to make a little bit of sense...

The pat file is a txt file. I think that you can just change the extension to pat, otherwise, open a pat file, save it with a new name and replace the text in it with that copied from your text file. Hope that helps.

The code that I was trying to create didn't quite work. I did what you said -- sort of. I can't open the pat. file, edit it and do a Save As and hoping that it would stay a pat file. I did what a coworker suggested -- Copy and Save in a different folder, so it doesn't save over the original. Open the pat file and erased what was in there. I copied the text and saved in the pat file. I SAVED it, not doing the Save As. Once I close the file, I change the name. I can't change the extension to .pat. Wish it were that easy. I know there must be an easier way, but this is the first time something's happened. Thanks. You worksheet was very helpful! Although I didn't quite achieve what I wanted, I'm hoping that it'll come to me soon. Westminster30
