We have a detail that is already annotated with leader text.  When we split the crop box, and move the right segment over, the text (located between the two views) leaders automatically tie to the center top of the text boxes instead of the left side.

When we try to drag the leader around, it still heavily weighs towards the top center.  Any idea on how to force the leaders to stay on the left of the text boxes?

I would try simply adding another leader and moving them to one side or the other.  Don't have an idea how to force the leader to stay to one side of the text though (text leaders are a mystery to me; even when editing the family.  What I have done is modified the family itself and changed the distance the leader begins from the text.  I have created several different types of families just for this situation.  Because the length of the text varies, sometimes I want to eliminate the gap between the text and the beginning of the leader.  I'm sure there's a better way, but that's what I did to make it work.  Thanks for the idea, now I'm going to post a thread about how to alter the distance a leader begins from the text!

if you grab the center of your leader, you can pull it to one side or the other and the whole leader will snap to the side.  though it will make a straight leader have an angle.  i typically use arc leaders anyway, so its a moot point but it depends on your office's drafting standards.
