I've been having problems with the cut planes for a CMU bearing wall system with precast concrete plank. Depending on where the cut plane is set, a number of other problems arise which make the drawings not look correct. For example at the 2nd Floor: If the cut plane is set below the floor slab, the bearing walls are shown correctly with the proper outline and hatching; however, nothing is visible above e.g. supported walls which are not continuous below. Ideally I want to see the walls above as dashed. Adjusting the "Top" offset of the view range does not really do anything for visibility of walls above the cut plane. Alternately, if you set the cut plane above the floor slab, the bearing walls below will not be hatched unless they are continuous through the floor structure. Thus, if a wall is supporting only 2nd floor structure and does not continue upwards, it looks incorrect. My project has a large plan area, so I would like to minimize linework if possible. Where have other SE's set their cut planes for Bearing wall systems?

are you familiar with a plan region? if not the help menu explains it and for your problem that is what i would imagine using

The Plan Region locally overrides the typical view range. In my case I need to show both above and below. If the Plan Region were able to overlay on the plan resulting in both view ranges visible, maybe it would work, but I don't think it can do that.

i have a solution, which we use on timber jobs: 1. duplicate your views to create two plans for the floor 2. in one plan, turn off all of the walls, and set it up to show the precast 3. in the other view, shut off everything but walls, and adjust the view range. 4. on the sheet, overlap the two views. they should snap together pretty easily, and no nudging will be necessary.

When you cut your plane below the level of the floor, are you looking up or down? If you duplicate your Structural Plan family & create a reflected plan type with the View Direction parameter set to "up", then you ought to see your non-continuous walls above as hidden.
