I would like to know how to join a column to the base plate, column cap plate, a shear tab connection or similar families that are inserted into the project. In the current project, I had to shift some grids and the columns shifted just fine but it left the base plates in their previous position. Any tips?

You could align and lock the parts to the grids. You could insert reference planes in the familiy that would give you something to lock to the grids. honestly it is probably easier to just move them.
