Hi, As we're creating a bunch of families, we often model the item as it appears, but show a symbol in plan. I was just wondering why there's no option to do a Filled Region within a family. I'm trying to create a black field in my symbol, and so far, the only two options we've thought of are as follows: - a thin Solid Form with a black material; the only negative is that even though you can hide it in elevation views, it will always show in 3D. - place a gazilion lines closely together (for instance 3/128" to create the illusion of a solid; the negative there is that you create so many lines that the family becomes unnecessarily big. Is there a better way? Thanks for reading.

You can only do masking regions in 3d families. But ... Create a new detailed component that does have a filled region - load that into this family.

bert, I have found that if you create a detail component family and make a filled region with the proper dimensions and reference planes, you can load that filled region into your family. From there you can assign the dimensions of that filled region to the dimensions of your family and from there lock your filled region to the planes in your family and then you have a paramatric filled region with your family. Clear as mud?
