I'm preparing a lighting/electrical plan and was wondering how to add lighting tags to my lights. i'm using standard lights from the library. Do these families have "native" tags or do i need to add a label to my plan view for each light? Also, generally, is there a way to have revit automatically renumber tags, such as room tags? or once inserted i need to renumber all into a sequence? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

If you have been using REVIT for more than 3 months, you should be familiar with what is in your library. If you are not, then take the time now. You don't have to use REVIT, use your windows browser to look in the lbrary under each category. Under content / imperial (metric) / annotations (where your tags will be) you will find the electrical sub folder with your lighting tags. Lights will not automatically mark when inserted but that's ok because we traditionally don't individually mark these. So just window all the same and mark them accordingly.

I have been using revit for 4 weeks. It's such a great tool and the learning curve flattens out pretty fast but i would not have gotten anywhere without RevitCity and all the great threads and responses. Will do as you suggest. Thank you.

I am surprised at how much drafting there is still to do in Revit. I thought that most tagging functions would be automated.

They are... You have a tag that is assigned to the family. Once you set the value in the family as a instance or type base, the rest is simple... load the tag and it the view hit tag all not tagged and see what happens.

Has anyone been able to tag a structural wall footing that gets attached to the wall and have it come out with the tag align to the wall? Oh the wall is vertically placed. Horiz it does well but Vert is no go.
Ideas???
