Hello all. I am still working in revit 2008 doing Residential Architecture. Just curious how most set up wall structure. I worked in AutoCad previously and only showed the 2x framed wall. In Revit the wall is set up to show the framed wall, sheathing, interior, and exterior finishes all with a thickness. However this seems to confuse the builder and the structural engineer. So I am just wondering if anyone out there has maybe continued to show the framed wall and applied a material still to show siding but not included the other building materials that make up a wall in the real world? Would there be anything wrong with doing it that way? Thanks in advance, Raina Mc

I would suggest that you do it the way that works best for you. You could create the structure and external finish as one wall and the internal finishes as a separate wall, joined to the structural wall. Alternatively, use a repeating detail in the structural zone to show the framing and hide the wall for those drawings. I do find it strange that consultants and builders get confused by seeing things as they actually are, provided that the dimensions are to the structural zone.
