If I have a wall on the existing phase and put a door or window in on the new construction phase it doesn't show dashed demo lines in elevation. I have my view set to Show Previous + Demo. It will show the lines on the boundry of the wall(where it touches the bottom of the wall) but nowhere else.

Here's what I did incase I'm going about this the wrong way. With a new project from the default revit template: Created a new wall. Changed it to existing. Created a new door in the wall. Switched to an elevation view. Changed it to Show Previous + Demo. Doesn't show the demo lines.

unjoin the demo'd portion from the existing. then mess around with overriding linework.
