I am trying to stop the GWB at the ceiling (or slightly above) while allowing the studs to continue to structure. I am hoping not to have to create a stacked wall.

You won't have to. Go to the edit structure part of the wall properties and display it in section view (click preview). Click modify and you can unlock the gyp layer. In a section view you can then stretch it to the correct position. Alternatively, if you don't have many views you can use the 'Edit cut profile' which will only affect that view.

Tim, This is what I do as well, and it is great when it works. However, sometimes dispite the fact that Ihave the layer unlocked, I am unable to adjust the suface. I would like to know if others have this problem, or if there are types of situations / views wher it is not possilbe to adjust the layers.

if your ceiling sketch extends past the gyp to the core fo your wall you can use the "attach" command on your wall. This will only attach the gyp layer of the wall if the ceiling sketch is correct. when tryhing to show my gyp above the ceiling like 8" or so I with unlock the layer in the structure properties or is just use the "cut profile" command to create it in section.

As I suggested to mtelford in the chatroom, you need to think out of the box on this one. REVIT only allows you to unlock adjacent layers. That means you can't unlock the drywall on both sides of an interior wall. So the out of the box? Unlock the stud. Now bring you wall to the height you want the drywall then drag the stud up instead of dragging the drywall down. See attached. pking - you edit where the layer goes to in section - not elevation.

Does this still apply to revit 2013? I want to pull the brick layer down at a brick ledge. I am looking for the unlock, but do not see it. If you have any suggestions, thanks in advance.

Still applies:
Edit wall type / edit the assembly / preview section / click modify and pick the bottom (or top) line of the layer you want to modify.
