If I create a 2D Symbol Family, I'd like to be able to rotate the symbol geometry, without rotating the text inside the geometry.

I have symbold that represent security cameras. And I need to be able to rotate the symbol to show the position of the camera.

Only thing I've been able to come up with is creating multiple family types for the different angles. But that doesnt allow me the freedom of rotating the camera at any angle I choose (short of creating 360 family types)

 Any ideas?

You could create an angle instance parameter so that you can set in the angle of rotation once it is loaded.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried that but it still rotates the text as well.

How can I do this rotating the symbol without rotating the text.

You can set the text inside the family so that it is always "readable" and obeys your drafting rules or it can remain fixed to the symbol.

ok thanks. i think that might work. it rotates so the text is always somewhat readable.

i guess there is no way to make the text stay fixed?

You should be able to do this with the generic annotation family.  Create a reference line and give it an angle instance parameter.  Create linework and lock it to the reference line.  Create the text.  The text will not rotate with the geometry when you load it into the project.
