Hi. I am using Revit 2009. My question concerns families with imbedded families (components). I have designed an elevated walkway module which is made up of a floor piece cradled between 2 posts. The posts are an imbedded family containing the wooden post with steel wire threaded through acting as the guard rail. I have put YES/NO parameters for both the post and the wires in the POST family. I am free to turn these off and on when I am in the MODULE family, however in my project, I have no access to this parameter. Should I have not built the post in a second family and built the module all in the same family? I have set another YES/NO parameter in the MODULE family for the entire POST family (wires + post) so I can turn them off and on, but if I would like to turn only the wires off, while keeping the post, I can't. I feel the only way to do it without building it all together is to setup different family types for each situation, but it would be much easier if I could access each part seperately. I have attached the 2 families. Please advise. Thanks, ac

"nested parameters" doesn't seem to be a category in either the index or search. I did find "nested family" and "shared family" I've gotton it so I can tab select the subcomponent while in the project (by checking shared in the "family categories and parameters for the family--However, I can't change any of the parameters (they are all greyed out)
