Anyone have a trick or tip to making perforated metal? I know somthing like this can really bog down the computer. has anyone created anthing like this? Thanks for any help you can offer.

You have already in your materials options, some of perforated metal where you can change the effect, dimensions, etc you want, also you can use a curtain wall like you can see in the thirth image.....

Has anyone experienced this problem with using the perforated metals: When I applied the perf mtl to the family object and import it to the project, I always get the what is shown in the first image. The image is an extrusion about 5' square by 1/4" thick. The material selected is stainless - Satin Coarse Screen. It always renders as two pieces of staggered plates of metal. No matter what I seem to do, I can't change the outcome, even though I change the cutout size and dimensions. However, when I create a model in place, it is successful. Does anyone have a suggestion for getting the family's material to work in a project using the perforations material?

Are you sure you don't have "Two" extrusions in that family?

Wierd.. What version are you using? I just load into project and render.... everything it's ok

what's the size of that file? you have a 2MB size limit

Put the same value in "Diameter" and "Center Spacing"

Ok, you just insert that panel family into your project, right? now, go to "Materials", check "Perforated Metal" and go to "Render Appearence", expand "Cutouts" and change the values like I told you before.

So Sorry! In my frustration I forgot to describe the problem. It's the scale of the holes. I tried adjusting the map scale under the cutouts->staggered circles->, and also cutouts->custom->image->scale, but the images still look the same. I have attached the rendering where I am using them. They are on the front wall as screens. However, the holes look enormous - like you could put your hand throught them. I would just like to get them to look like they are only about 1/4" diameter or so. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Just "play" with the values (Diameter and Center Spacing).

You are correct. The material in the main project was over-riding the material in the family. Once I adjusted the material in the main project it started working. However, I did notice that you can get the perforations only so close, then it won't let you go any closer to each other. It still looks great Thanks again for all your help.

I'm trying to create an expanded metal door variable width and height with jambs that match height. Kinda like the picture but I need them 48" and 43" in height. I'm ready to just drink myself to death.
