I have created a material takeoff to give me a "bill of materials" for foundation embeds, but for some reason, Revit is double counting the plates. I click on the plate in the schedule and then the "show" button and it pulls up the foundation with all of the plates highlighted. Once I am there, I manually count the plates myself and get exactly 1/2 of what Revit counts. Does anyone have an idea why revit Structure 2008 is doing this or what I am doing wrong? Thanks,

What is weird is when I delete one plate, the count decreased by 2.

Better look at your family. Is something nested?

That is what I am think, but I don't see anything nested and I purged the file and get the same results. I inserted the one plate into a new project and it shows 2 plates in the material take off. I built the plate from scratch using extrusions and did not copy paste from another plate. I even copied the family and renamed it to a diffrent plate name and it is still double county.

Got me. I inserted it into a project and the quantities are correct. I selected all instances and the count is correct. I deleted one and the count change was by one. ?????? Does it make sense to delete all instances, purge from project and start over???

I checked it out as well and it counts correct in a schedule but it does not count correct in a material takeoff. What was interesting was that if I deleted the plate and left the studs, it counted as one but if I deleted the studs and left the plate, it still counted as two. Something real strange here.

I was using it in a material takeoff instead of a schedule. At first glance, a material take off looked easier to use. If you say you could do it in a schedual with out it doulbe counting, I will do it that way. Atleast I know I am not going crazy and have something configured screwey on my end.

All I did was delete your plate in your family and replaced it with another extrusion and when I reloaded, the count when down to 1 per instance. Check it out. Also when creating families-sub-categories are fun and good to use
