Too much in one post to deal with.  You should start by doing some of the tutorials.  Also, look at the many tutorials on-line like this one: http://www.cadclips.com/REVIT-2008-10MinuteHouse.htm  Then come back with more detailed questions.

Yeah, you must to learn so many things.... create the "Sheet then drag your plan view to that sheet, about this: "but what I don't understand is how to create a 2D plan sheet.   When I look at a 3D plan view of my model the line styles are all wrong! Hidden elements don't appear hidden, the thickness of lines all appear the same and in general there is no destinction between any of the elements. How do I make them look different" youreally need to read the tutorial, see here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=11091739

Do as WWHub and Typhoon suggest but here's a tip: Click the icon for thin lines. And just keep learning any way you can. For me Revit comes in spurts. You make a bunch of progress learning the program, then want to take your expertise up another level and have to learn more. Just part of the process. Use your help menu too.

No ... it is very easy ... but there are many ways to do it, some are in single views globally, some are all views globally, some are instance ...

BUT

You need to crawl first .... SPEND SOME TIME WITH THE TUTORIALS !

REVIT is very, very easy but your question reflects that you have not really spent any time learning the basics - DO THAT.

I'm glad you know how to do 2D sections and Details.   We use drafting 2D details too on occasion but most of what we do is all based on the model.  The 3D model is the plan, it's also the elevations and it's the sections!  No lines needed!!!! Just depends on how you set up your views.   And the "lines" are not lines but how the model is displayed in each of those views.   Then for more information in sections and details, you may use added lines and detail components.....

Let's back up a bit. Post a screen shot of what you have so far and we'll help you out. It's hard to tell you how to get what you want with what we have so far.

But linestyles are controlled

1. in the family

2. with object styles.

3. Override graphics in view

4. with the Linework tool

5. with drafting lines.

It's just that there's different solutions depending upon what you are doing and what you want. The beauty of Revit is that the model will help you coordinate your drawings in terms of sections. It's not practical to model everything so each user finds a level of modeling they are comfortable with and then uses the drafting tab and detail components to detail.

Plans on the other hand, besides taging and noting can be very much complete and look the way you want when you drop them in with some touch up work.

Like I said post a screenshot and we'll get you going. WWHub and Typhoon are among the best in this forum  So don't take offense.

Hover over the tool icons and find two tools for me: linework and thin lines.

1. Footings: This is where i use the line work tool to make my footings hidden line.  Cryingor you can select the footing and right click > override graphics in view)  You can select the type of line you want and and modify the footing line.

Revit is supposed to have the ability to show objects that are in the lower portion of the view depth as hidden but i've never been able to make that work just right.

2. Now click the thin lines tool and Revit will darken wall faces, detail components, etc. These settings are in the object styles settings. I don't mess with the OS too much but i bet there are others that have it set up to a tee. This is something you would set up in your template so that project after project it's the same.

Like WWHub was saying, something you handle on a view by view basis...some you set up in your template or project. I'm not nearly as experienced as them so I bet they'll have more and maybe better input.

That's a start. BTWI didn't see the section

HTH

John

Now that i see the section, I would think you would want the footings hidden line and the wall that is covered with the slab as Beyond. And then note with text what is shown and it will all be clear with the section.

Also turning off floors in the foundation plan is sometimes helpful for me. then i'm just worried about how footings and walls are represented. Floors are for the floor plan....for me at least.

One last tool you may find useful is the show hidden line tools. Happy Holiday...I'm off to see the Easter Bunny

Leebrinkley, if you ever put those screenshots in your first post and ask "How can i put OR I want to put this lines in hidden lines in this plan view??" EVERYONE was told you "Use linework tools".... You said "Everyone on this forum assumes that just because I'm new to Revit that I am stupid also.  Ignorant towards Revit, yes, but not stupid." Nobody here call you that or assume that.... also you said "I understand probably 80% of Revit and how it works," - I don't think so because "Linework" tools came in the tutorials, it's a BASIC tool in Revit, so, Did you read the tutorials??? (I post the link from autodesk with the tutorials) or the HELP menu in revit???? , I work in CAD since 1989/90 (20 years), with CAD, Land, Cartomap, Star, 3D Max, Viz, Rhino, Civil 3D, Map,........ , Revit (3 years), I read ALL the tutorials from autodesk (several times), books, I watch hundreds of Tips and tricks and videos in blogs and sites everyday, I spend hours with revit and i think i only "Understand" probably 50% of Revit", and you "I'm pretty new to Revit" Understand probably 80%.... Hummmm I don't think so, if you do you don't ask this BASIC and VAGUE question.
You also said "Wow, I didn't realize changing line type and line weight was so difficult in Revit.  I can't believe no one knows how to do it."  - Being sarcastic don't will help in the future, belive me...
By the way, Welcome to Revit World....
