Hi,

I am trying to find out the best approach to model the existing conditions of a building that contains walls of various thicknesses.  Since the construction of the walls are unknow and they varies fron 8" to 4'-0" thick walls, here are a few approaches I can think of:

1. make generic wall of every thickness.

2. make wall by solid modeling, but i found adding door problematic.

3. make a wall that only shows line on one side so by tracing thicker walls, it will not look like it contains a shaft, etc.  actually i do think its possible to create a wall with only a single line shown.

You can achieve it using solid modeling using the wall category.  Doors should work with this if you draw the walls separately (don't draw the whole building as one extrusion) - see image.  This has disadvantages as you will not have the normal functionality of walls, such as attaching to roofs.

If there aren't too many walls I would use your first method - a bit slow at first, but you will have all the functionality of walls.  How important is it that all the walls are the exact correct thickness?  If you are tracing from a measured survey, the thickness will only be correct at that height and thickness may vary in section also.

Tim123, Thanks for the input!.

the 3rd option i meant to say it isn't possible, since I can't seemed to find a way to create such wall type.
