Hi, I'm trying to import some variouss CAD files in .DWG format into revit and make them into a family. Originally the files all came from .3ds files, so i had to import them into autodesk 3ds max design 2009 and then export them as .dwg files so i can import them into revit. Everything went smoothly until i realized that the individual pieces of the imported objects no longer had seperat materials, the whole object is just one plain color, Even though in 3ds max design 09 i assigned every piece a material. Are materials non transferable??? is there a better program to use?? am i doing this wrong??? help please! Thanks!

Each element in cad that has a different material needs to be on a different layer. You then assign a material to that layer in Revit
